Rainscaping Iowa is a statewide educational campaign that promotes infiltration and capture-based storm water management practices to protect water quality and reduce runoff. This program can be implemented locally on a statewide basis and adopted by state and federal agencies, cities, counties, Soil and Water conservation Districts, landscaping and landscape design professionals, landscape architects and other interested groups. It is administered by the Iowa Storm Water Education Program (ISWEP) and overseen by strategic partners that include the major state agencies in Iowa that are connected to water quality issues.
These partners currently include: > Iowa Department of Agricultural and Land Stewardship (IDALS) > Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) > Iowa Department of Transportation – Living Roadway Trust (IDOT) > Polk Soil and Water Conservation District > Iowa Storm Water Education Program
Partners may expand to include those industries that are connected to construction of the recognized Rainscaping practices.
The ultimate goal of the program is to build awareness and behavioral change on many different levels that will result in the improvement and protection of water resources in Iowa. This will be accomplished through an educational campaign using this website, development of supporting educational resources, and training for numerous stakeholders statewide, with future plans for more advanced campaigns through major media such as radio, television, and newspapers.
The program is supported by funding, time, and talent of the partners and stakeholders.
